The Zen Temple La Tierra started in 1994 through the initiative of master Reitai Lemort. Its purpose is to offer to those willing, a deep and direct Zen life practice with conditions more favorable than those found in urban life.
From its beginning, and with the effort of all the sangha (a group of practitioners) work has been done to transform the site, to make it more adequate to the needs of Zen practice.
The Zen Temple La Tierra is located in the countryside, with a warm climate, near the town of Cachipay, one hour and thirty minutes away from Bogotá by car. Throughout the year a variable group of persons live there, dedicated to the practice, taking care of the place and its facilities. They receive the practitioners coming to the sesshins and share the activities with those visiting by days, weeks, months, or those staying for longer periods of time.
Life at La Tierra is a monastic way of life under the guidance of master Reitai Lemort.

There are several daily sessions of zazen (Zen meditation) and samu (practice in cleaning, kitchen, garden maintenance and other activities, as well as taking care of the vegetable garden and the animals…).
The Temple is open to all those willing to take some distance from all types of conditionings which hide our true being, from the artificial conditionings imposed by society to the “genetic” conditioning of the self in the mind and in the body. Living in La Tierra is an opportunity to practice in a different manner, due to the intensity of zazen, the atmosphere provided by nature, the direct contact with the essential activities of daily life, and the respect and silence which characterize life at the Temple.
To stay at La Tierra, approval by the Foundation is required. No one shall stay without previous acceptance and announcement. For those willing to practice some days as visitors, it is necessary to call at the latest, by 12 m on the thursday before arrival.
